Sr. Broadcast Engineer (Live Events)

Advanced Systems Group is seeking a Broadcast Systems Engineer to support event production on our client's site in Mountain View, CA.

Essential Functions

  • Technical setup for productions 
  • Live broadcast engineering support
  • Broadcast equipment configuration 
  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, routine and preventive maintenance of broadcast and other technical equipment in the production facility
  • Monitor, analyze, and solve problems with RF, video, audio, cameras, digital switchers, digital routers, digital video servers, character generators, automation, post-production, and non-linear editing systems.
  • Author and manage and update accurate engineering documentation

Technical Knowledge Required

  • Broadcast facility infrastructure and technology
  • Familiarity with audio/video standards and troubleshooting procedures
  • HD/3G-SDI with embedded audio
  • AES/EBU
  • Dante and AES67
  • Timecode and various sync types
  • Computer formats such as HDMI/DVI/VGA/Displayport
  • Digital routing switchers and control systems, preferably nVision/Miranda/Evertz
  • Video switchers/mixers, preferably Snell Advanced Media, For-A, and Ross
  • Peripheral broadcast equipment
  • Distribution Amplifiers
  • Audio/Data dis/embedders
  • Frame Syncronizers
  • Converters/Scalers
  • Closed-caption encoders
  • Audio console setup and operation
  • Basic computer networking skills and troubleshooting
  • Terminal commands
  • Telnet
  • FTP
  • Cable termination including RJ-45, BNC, XLR
  • Understanding of power distribution best practices

Qualifications

  • 7 years of overall broadcast engineering experience
  • Hands-on knowledge of broadcast systems and equipment, including analog/digital video/audio signals, monitoring and test equipment
  • Ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse range of people and job functions
  • Professionalism and ability to be helpful and maintain composure under pressure 
  • Ability to work well in a broadcast team environment, including talent, producers and directors, under strict time deadlines
  • Expectation of complete confidentiality on all business matters
  • Computer and communications skills: email, calendars, spreadsheets
  • Ability to work varied schedules and to work overtime and/or holidays
